Maharashtra tops State Tax Collection with Direct Tax of Rs. 6,05,268.35 Crores
The Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance Shri Pankaj Chaudhary has answered various questions asked in Rajya Sabha that Maharashtra tops State Tax collection with Direct Tax of Rs. 6,05,268.35 Crores.
The Minister Shri P. Wilson asked the following questions in Rajya Sabha:
Will the Minister of FINANCE be pleased to state:
(a) the details of GST, direct, indirect, and other tax contributions received from each state for the past five years ;
(b) the details of funds allocated to each State based on central taxes collected for the past five years;
(c) whether any proposal to change the tax allocation formula is being considered by the Ministry as it is being requested by various States; and
(d) if not, the reasons therefor?
The Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance Shri Pankaj Chaudhary replied:
(a): Data with respect to GST are provided in Annexure ‘A’. It pertains to GST collected in the State and does not include GST collection on imports.
Annexure ‘B’ contains the Net Direct Tax Collection by State and Union Territory from the financial years 2018 to 2022-23.
State-wise data is not maintained by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes. However, the total Net Central Indirect Tax collection for the last five financial years is as follows:
(b) to (d): The inter-se share of States in the net proceeds of the Union’s shared taxes is determined by the Finance Commission‘s recommendation under Article 280 of the constitution.
The details of States’ Share in the divisible pool of Central Taxes and duties released to the State Government from the F.Y. 2018-19 to 2022-23 are enclosed in Annexure ‘C’.
