Viral message claiming Income Tax Refund Approval of Rs.15,490 Fake
Recently, a viral message has been surfacing the internet that recipient has been been approved for an income tax refund of Rs.15,490.
The Income Tax Department will never send you an email requesting you to confirm your bank account information or to click on a link to change your information. Do not click on any links or disclose any personal information if you receive a message like this.
The PIB Fact Check on his official twitter portal has confirmed it that this message is fake. They requests each income taxpayers to not get triggered by this scam message and not to click any of the link provided therein; beware of such scams and refrain from sharing your personal information.
How to avoid falling for phishing scams: Here are some tips below
- Be careful of unwanted messages, especially those requesting personal information.
- Do not click on links in emails or text messages from strangers.
- If you are doubtful whether a communication is genuine, contact the sender directly using a phone number or email address that you have confirmed.
- Keep your computer’s security software up to date.
What to do in case you have provided personal information already
- Setting up a fraud alert on your credit report.
- Keep a close eye on your credit report for any unusual behaviour.
- Change the passwords on all of your internet accounts.
